Field Testing Associate (Full-Time)

Field Associate Role You will conduct, to the highest level of quality, a range of field testing and sampling on the environmental impact of a potential source of pollutants, primarily but not limited to factors affecting Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ). The work may also include pollutants in water, soil, and air. You will use equipment such as air sampling monitors, microscopes, sound level meters, water pumps, and lead sampling kits to analyse and test specific areas for pollution sources. You will be responsible for the equipment in your care, for data analysis and development of recommendations based on findings, and for preparing and presenting reports of the findings to staff and clients. Contributions to designing and implementing environmental monitoring programs may also be required. While CETEC’s work is not limited to WELL Performance Verifications, the WELL rating system captures much of the scope involved. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field; Master’s degree welcomed; field experience preferred for San Francisco and required for all other locations. Exceptional attention to methodology, especially when collecting and processing samples on‑site. Demonstrated motivation, time‑management, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and respond to support requests as needed. Strong communication skills across all levels, raising and resolving challenges, and advocating for top‑quality outcomes. Proficiency in writing clear and concise reports on fieldwork, with samples available for review. Eligible to work in the United States and prepared to travel anywhere within the United States and possibly within the Americas; most trips will not exceed three nights. Flexible work arrangement: can work from co‑working spaces or home, but expected to spend time at the San Francisco hub when required. Fieldwork – Direct Responsibilities Understand the scope of work to be conducted. Liaise with client(s) to organize site‑visit time and access requirements. Competently source, prepare, use, and maintain all equipment required for fieldwork. Be on time and prepared for all scheduled site work. Collect all samples and record measurements as per the scope of work. Observe, photograph, and record site conditions as per internal guidelines. Gather information to diagnose and address problems. Escalate any questions or site issues in real time. Reporting Accurately record the aim(s), objectives, and methodology of the project. Transcribe site observations, measurements, and results. Conduct quality‑control checks on all data entered. Complete all job registers accurately. Log all samples accurately within the Foray Sample Register and send them, when required, to the appropriate lab for analysis on time. Complete and elevate your draft report allowing sufficient time for review by a senior or principal within CETEC. Adhere to OH&S legislation at all times: be familiar with your responsibilities; ensure the safety of yourself and others; and report any OH&S issues to your manager immediately upon occurrence. Broader Responsibilities Undertake any projects assigned by senior staff. Ask for additional tasks when direct responsibilities do not consume your time, and proactively request help if overloaded. Proactively identify opportunities to contribute. Maintain transparent communication with your manager. Attend required meetings with the broader team (1–3 hours most weeks). Submit timesheets and expenses accurately and on time. Maintain a neat, tidy, and professional appearance at all times. Represent CETEC in a positive professional manner at all times. Adhere to internal guidelines and rules consistently. Treat all staff, clients, subcontractors, and colleagues in accordance with CETEC’s anti‑discrimination policies and report any observed non‑compliant behavior. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Accuracy of samples taken, results recorded, and report content. Adherence to internal protocols for fieldwork, reporting, and analysis. Proactive support to CETEC’s ISO and other compliance initiatives, including flagging of issues. Timeliness and punctuality in fieldwork, reporting, and scheduled meetings. Effectiveness, proactiveness, and clarity of internal communication and reporting. Professionalism displayed when attending site and/or meeting clients. Overall curiosity and rate of learning. Attention to detail and critical thinking. Overall contribution to projects to the greatest degree of quality, on time, and on budget. Positive client feedback.
