Old Dominion Brush Company LLC (ODB) is accepting applications to fill the position of Operations Manager in the department of Manufacturing Administration in Richmond, Virginia. Job Overview The successful incumbent will direct day‑to‑day operations of manufacturing activities, including production management and schedules, materials management, shipping/receiving, machine utilization, quality standards, overall plant capacity, material requirement planning, cost containment, and Lean manufacturing. Responsibilities also include maintaining manufacturing and shipping quality of whole goods and parts according to the production schedule, developing a strategic plan to achieve productivity and efficiency goals, ensuring safety, maintaining equipment and facilities, and staffing requirements. Develop strategic plans to achieve productivity and efficiency goals. Coordinate with Marketing, Engineering, and Production Planning on schedules. Coordinate with Purchasing to establish and maintain supplier relationships to facilitate lead times. Coordinate with Engineering Manager to improve manufacturing capabilities of new or revised product designs. Coordinate activities of Supervisors and Manufacturing Engineers to meet production schedules and productivity goals. Delegate, prioritize, and oversee projects of supervisors; initiate personnel actions and administer performance evaluations. Support a safe work environment and compliance with federal and state regulations. Select quality plans for each product based on specifications. Coordinate maintenance personnel to assure equipment reliability. Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality policies. Establish expectations and standards for a clean and organized work area. Comply with applicable laws and company policies. Provide guidance and coaching, offering training and professional development opportunities. Collaborate with the President and HR Manager to resolve employee concerns. Collaborate with Purchasing to evaluate materials and alternative resources to resolve supply problems. Stay current on manufacturing tools, techniques, industry, and market trends. Analyze operations results vs. budget/forecast; review discretionary spending requests. Improve communications and facilitate meetings related to production and service parts. Perform additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in production fabrication, welding, paint, mechanical assembly, warehouse, and related processes. Experience developing programs that address productivity, cost improvement, and quality issues. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; able to interact at all organizational levels. Strategic thinking and strong analytical/problem‑solving abilities. Problem‑solving, persuasion, motivation; ability to build high‑performance teams. Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality standards, best practices. Capability to troubleshoot problems and suggest continuous improvements. Highly organized with project management skills and continuous improvement focus. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety culture. Experience designing parts for trucks or related vehicles. Proficiency in 3‑D construction, design layouts, assembly drawings, and component part drawings. Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic systems and design techniques for welding, metal and plastics. Excellent computer skills; proficient in SolidWorks. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals. Knowledge of engineering design standards and manufacturing capabilities. Knowledge of Bill of Materials, configurator, stress analysis, material selection, and sizing. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 7–10 years of prior manufacturing/supervisory experience, preferably in a heavy‑industrial environment. Working Conditions Varies between manufacturing floor and office setting. Regular speaking, walking, and specific vision requirements. Work days, nights, overtime, and/or weekends as needed. May require travel occasionally.
