Financial Counselor

Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Financial Counselor to support patients and families as they navigate the financial aspects of treatment. This role is responsible for verifying insurance benefits, explaining financial responsibility, collecting patient payments, and ensuring all required financial documentation is completed prior to admission. The Financial Counselor works closely with Admissions, Utilization Review, and Billing teams to ensure a smooth and transparent intake process. Key Responsibilities Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for residential behavioral health and substance use treatment services. Clearly explain insurance coverage, deductibles, copays, and estimated patient responsibility to patients and families. Collect deposits, copays, deductibles, and establish payment plans in accordance with facility policies. Accurately document benefit verification, financial discussions, and payments in the patient record. Ensure completion of financial agreements and required documentation prior to admission. Collaborate with Admissions, Utilization Review, and Billing teams to support the intake and revenue cycle process. Qualifications 2+ years of experience in healthcare financial counseling, insurance verification, admissions, or medical billing preferred. Experience in mental health or substance use treatment strongly preferred. Strong understanding of commercial insurance benefits and patient financial responsibility. Excellent communication, customer service, and documentation skills.
