Company Description Texans for Lawsuit Reform is a broad coalition of more than 16,800 individual supporters from 900 towns and cities across Texas, representing over 1,200 trades, businesses, and professions. Its supporters include small business owners, community volunteers, legal professionals, healthcare workers, educators, and consumers who share a commitment to a fair and efficient civil justice system. The organization advocates for reducing frivolous litigation and the associated "tort tax" that can burden businesses, professionals, and consumers. Texans for Lawsuit Reform works to promote legal reforms that support economic growth, protect jobs, and secure a better future for all Texans. Role Description The Assistant Legal Counsel will provide legal support for Texans for Lawsuit Reform's policy, advocacy, and organizational activities. This full-time, on-site role in Austin, TX includes researching and analyzing Texas civil justice laws and proposed legislation, and preparing clear, accurate legal memoranda and reports. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and editing legal documents, contracts, and internal policies, as well as assisting with compliance and risk assessment related to the organization’s operations and advocacy efforts. The Assistant Legal Counsel will collaborate with senior legal staff, policy teams, and external stakeholders to provide practical legal advice, support strategic initiatives, and help develop educational materials on legal and legislative issues impacting Texans for Lawsuit Reform's mission. Qualifications Strong foundation in Law, with demonstrated understanding of civil justice and legislative processes. Experience in Contract Negotiation, including reviewing, drafting, and advising on agreements. Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including memoranda, briefs, and policy summaries. Ability to analyze complex Legal Issues and provide clear, well-reasoned Legal Advice to internal stakeholders. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Texas, or eligibility for admission. Excellent legal research, writing, and editing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse professionals and community stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
