Medical Lab Scientist II We are seeking a Medical Lab Scientist II to perform, evaluate, and report technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens for diagnosis and treatment of disease, following established protocols and ensuring quality control and compliance with professional standards. Overview The Medical Lab Scientist II is responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The role follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with regulatory and professional standards, while modeling the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Responsibilities Perform accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory according to established protocols. Report test results in a timely manner as per laboratory procedures. Follow laboratory quality control procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and policies. Effectively manage resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment. Plan work and complete job responsibilities efficiently and productively. Education and Formal Training Requirements Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Science. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. Work Experience Requirements Required: Medical Technologist with 1–3 years of experience. Preferred: A Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science may substitute for one year of experience (1–3 years). Licenses and Certifications Requirements Required: Medical Laboratory Scientist – American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Preferred: AMT Medical Laboratory Scientist – American Medical Technologists. Preferred: International Medical Laboratory Scientist – American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Preferred: Medical Technologist – Tennessee Department of Health – Medical Laboratory Board. Preferred: AAB Medical Technologist – American Association of Bioanalysts. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated competency in routine testing in the assigned laboratory area. Effective communication and relationship building with internal and external customers. Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems. Ability to organize tasks and projects independently to complete tasks without close supervision. Supervision No supervisory or lead responsibilities are assigned to this position, except that the incumbent may occasionally demonstrate job responsibilities to other associates and observe/instruct student technologists. Physical Demands Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or up to 25 lbs. frequently. Excellent visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact and exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials.
