Data Center Engineering and Operations EHS Engineer

In the role of Data Center Engineering and Operations (DCEO) Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer, you will make sure teams at our locations surpass all applicable EHS regulations and company programs. This is a fully onsite role where you will be joining a distributed team that works within data centers and laboratories where we launch our first article AI factories for testing. You will work closely with a world-class group of engineers and experts committed to innovation and quality.What you'll be doing:Coordinate with the DCEO Operations staff, Collocation provider contacts, the company’s real estate management group, and the EHS division to ensure compliance with and advancement of EHS compliance programs, procedures, and training in the south Bay Area of California. This role focuses on understanding and applying federal, California, county, and city worker safety and life safety regulations in our facilities. The role will also help support DCEO EHS team in meeting environmental-related requirements including conducting inspections and assisting with waste management processes.Provide real-time risk assessment and safety guidance for non-routine work, prototype and first article equipment where design and hardware engineers are performing tests to qualify and validate equipmentCoordinate with onsite facilities teams and vendors to maintain appropriate safety throughout medium voltage switching and medium and low voltage equipment testingWork with onsite engineering and facilities teams, as well as vendors, to ensure safety measures are accurate during validation, qualification and deployment of liquid computer cooling equipmentFrequent travel between sites in the Silicon Valley region as well as work in data center-related research and development laboratories, as well as collocated data centers.Initiate and conduct workshops and training sessions for DCEO and engineering staff on health and safety requirements including hazard analysis, hazard control, electrical safety and qualifications, chemical management and exposure, high sound pressure levels, ergonomics, and other program areas.Ensure proper chemical and waste management and maintain chemical inventories, safety data sheets, chemical labeling in chemical storage areas. Conduct hazardous waste inspections and supervise hazardous waste disposal.Coordinate with external firms and internal teams as the primary contact for audits and compliance inspections within DCEO site operations.Act as site leader for assisting with the development of standard and emergency operating procedures, identifying issues, and generating corrective action backlogs.Leverage AI experience to integrate autonomous solutions into documentation processes, improving team performance.What we need to see:Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, occupational risk management, or related field (or equivalent experience)5+ years of experience in conducting hazard analysis and risk mitigation strategies, implementation of successful internal EHS programs, management of onsite compliance programs, and site inspections/auditsKnowledge of US federal and California health and safety regulations and their applicability to commercial and industrial environments with a concentration in electrical safetyKnowledge of employee exposure monitoring programs related to noise, thermal stress exposure, and use of various chemicalsPreparation and implementation of site-specific training modules/programsHas or can obtain a valid driver’s license to operate non-commercial motor vehicles in CaliforniaWays to stand out from the crowdCertified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certificationsNFPA 70E training and certificationRCRA and/or DOT hazardous materials training and experienceMaster’s degree in occupational safety and/or health sciencesYour base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions.
