Must-Have: Must have a strong cardiac telemetry background, preferably 2 years. Must be able to decrease cardiac drips per physician's orders and parameters. Nurses will be caring for more telemetry patients versus medical patients.

Description: This position requires telemetry skills and knowledge. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start, with a maximum of 2 attempts. Failure to pass will result in a 6-month do-not-use designation for specific regions. There is a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. Failure in this lab will result in being sent home and a 6-month do-not-use designation. Nurses will be caring for ED holds waiting for placement on a unit. Ratios are typically 1 to 4 patients per nurse. Experience with titrating drips is required; common drips include Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone. Charge nurse responsibilities will be managed within the department. There are patient care technicians available to assist on this unit. Patients will be monitored; nurses must be able to read and interpret strips. Shifts are 12 hours, with the ability to self-schedule, although this may change. Weekend shifts are required: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Holiday shifts will be rotated with permanent staff. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Floating to med-surg/tele and overflow units may be necessary. Nursing staff will help with ED patients, including taking vitals, IV starts, and medication administration. Staff will not be primary RNs for ED patient assignments. The charting system used is Cerner. Cancellation of shifts may occur, with specific limits as noted for assignments.
