Teaching Artist: PLA Student Discovery Program

Position Teaching Artist – PLA Student Discovery Program (Temporary Employee – Non-Exempt) Job Description Teaching artist opportunities at Penn Live Arts change each season depending on what Student Discovery shows are offered. Penn Live Arts teaching artists conduct up to four pre‑performance visits in K‑12 schools to prepare students for the themes, techniques, and influences they will encounter in the theatre during Student Discovery Series performances. Drawing upon background information and materials associated with the performance and/or company, teaching artists prepare developmentally appropriate, creative lesson plans of 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Student outputs may include dance technique and choreography, scene studies and acting exercises, discussion/debate, creative writing or visual art activities. Work includes two hours of prep time per one hour of classroom time. The final schedule of visits is determined in cooperation with classroom teachers and Penn Live Arts staff. Location Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Department / School Penn Live Arts Pay Range $7.25 – $75.00 per hour (salary offers are made based on qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position).
