Part-Time Fire Inspector
Village of Lake Zurich, Illinois
The Lake Zurich Fire Prevention Bureau has an opening for a part‑time Fire Prevention Inspector to conduct inspections of commercial and residential buildings for compliance with applicable fire codes, ordinances and statutes. Hours are assigned up to 19 hours per week average, Monday through Friday during the hours of 7 am–4 pm with occasional weekend or evening hours. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Conduct fire and life safety inspections across various occupancies; identify hazards and code violations. Prepare inspection reports, correction notices and follow‑up documentation; perform re‑inspections. Assist with plan reviews and fire protection system checks. Collect and analyze data on fire incidents and hazards. Maintain accurate records; prepare reports, correspondence and program statistics. Utilize inspection software and departmental systems. Develop and deliver fire safety education programs; participate in community outreach and events; and support community risk reduction initiatives. Assist with coordination of special events and public education strategies. Provide fire prevention support during incidents; assist suppression personnel and investigators. Qualifications High school diploma or GED and valid driver’s license; minimum two years of fire prevention/inspection experience; certified as Basic Fire Prevention Officer or Fire Prevention Officer I. Require within one year of hire ICC Fire Inspector I certification, Plans Examiner certification, Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I, and Youth Fire Setting Intervention Specialist. Selected candidate must also successfully complete a background check and post‑offer employment physical examination including a drug screening.
