OAG - Antitrust | Investigator II-III | 26-0494 The OAG's Antitrust Division is seeking an experienced, self-driven investigator capable of thriving in a collaborative work environment and independently overseeing cases with complex legal and factual issues. The Antitrust Division is charged with investigating and prosecuting violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act and federal antitrust statutes. The Division's caseload consists of highly complex and high-profile investigations and litigation which may involve antitrust violations such as monopolization, conspiracies among competitors, or anticompetitive mergers. Matters investigated or litigated can be local, regional, or national in scope and may be coordinated with other state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission, or the U.S. Department of Justice. Licensed attorneys with a demonstrable interest and/or experience in antitrust enforcement or litigation are encouraged to apply. Essential Position Functions: Obtains and analyzes information, data, and evidence from a variety of sources associated with antitrust cases and complaints Assists with conducting background investigations, which includes contacting and interviewing witnesses, taking thorough notes, and preparing interview summaries Organizes and maintains voluminous case files, in both hard-copy and electronic forms, and ensures adherence to confidentiality requirements Searches discovery databases, reviews documents, and identifies and codes relevant information Receives and acts upon phone complaints from referring agencies and the general public Coordinates investigations with other state and federal agencies and organizations involved in antitrust enforcement activities Assists with drafting Civil Investigative Demands and correspondence Provides technical guidance to less tenured staff Performs related work as assigned Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Minimum Qualifications: Investigator II: Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university Knowledge of investigative principles, techniques, and procedures Knowledge of research methods and their application to research analysis Skill in researching and interpreting complex rules and regulations Skill in learning new or changing computer systems and databases Skill in applying investigative techniques and procedures to assigned cases Skill in writing and producing concise, professional quality documents and reports Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, working under pressure and meeting deadlines Skill in data analysis Skill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval Skill in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other applications in a Windows environment Skill in effective oral and written communication Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with management and co-workers Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making Ability to work as a team member with federal or state agencies Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback Ability to handle stressful situations Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment Ability to provide excellent customer service Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave) Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs. Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5% Investigator III: All of the above qualifications for an Investigator II PLUS: Experience: One year of full-time experience researching and compiling data, data extraction/query and analysis, using statistical methods and relational databases to analyze data sets, writing data-intensive reports, or closely related experience Preferred Qualifications: Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a field related to law, government, investigations and/or technology Experience: Legal assistant, legal secretary, or general office experience in a civil litigation environment Experience: Two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: investigative work, legal assistant/paralegal Knowledge: Knowledge of legal terminology and principles Skills: Using database software; electronic filing; Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, e-discovery platforms including Relativity and Everlaw.
