These values - integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion - must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.Pharmacy interns are enrolled in a pharmacy degree program at an accredited school of pharmacy and participate in the delivery of pharmacy services under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The pharmacy intern position will prepare individuals for their role as a future pharmacist. Interns are invited and encouraged to participate in educational activities within the Pharmacy Department including those associated with the pharmacy residency program. The intern may complete additional pharmacy projects in collaboration with pharmacy leadership and/or pharmacy residents. EEO/AA/Disability/VeteranResponsibilitiesConsistently demonstrate HRO behaviorsProvide excellent customer service to patients and other healthcare team membersAssist with medication preparation, dispensing, and distribution in accordance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policiesPerforms necessary calculations and drug product manipulations, dilution, or compoundingSupport inventory management activities, including receiving, restocking, expiration monitoring, and controlled substance handlingSupport immunization initiatives if certified to immunizeSupport optimal transitions of care (e.g. meds to beds, meds in hands)Ensure accurate documentation and timely communication of medication related informationEfficiently collect best possible medication histories and provide patient education as neededParticipate in medication safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts as assignedParticipate in departmental meetings, training sessions, or projects as assignedComply with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., state board of pharmacy, USP, Joint Commission)Maintain patient confidentiality and data security in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policiesMaintains a clean and organized work environment.Clearly communicate and escalate concerns to the supervising pharmacist, manager and/or director of pharmacy as appropriate and in a timely mannerPerform relevant and pertinent duties as directed by departmental pharmacy leadership to support the needs of the department.QualificationsEducationHigh school diploma required and must be currently enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited College of Pharmacy program or pre-pharmacy program.ExperiencePharmacy or healthcare-related experience preferred but not required.LicensureMust be eligible to register as a Pharmacy Intern or pharmacy technician in the state of employment as outlined by the Dept. of Consumer Protection (CT) or Dept. of Health (RI).Special SkillsProficiency in mathematical calculations; accuracy; problem solving; attention to detail; knowledge of computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets; ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment; ability to learn or perform pharmaceutical compounding, repackaging and labeling including manipulation of raw drug products using appropriate technique: ability to work with computer and technology equipment including the ability to perform basic troubleshooting functions. Must be able to prioritize competing demands, work independently, and show flexibility and teamwork. Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.Physical DemandMust be available to work rotating shifts and weekends. Must be flexible with scheduling, working evening, holiday, and weekend shifts as needs demand. Employee is considered essential personnel and is expected to work during inclement weather (e.g. blizzards, hurricanes). During the course or daily tasks, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand and crouch. The employee must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The work environment noise level is moderate.
