Our 53-bed Emergency Department is equipped to manage a wide range of medical emergencies, with approximately 10% of cases related to trauma. As part of a Level I Trauma Center, you will work alongside experienced emergency medicine providers, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver timely, high-quality care when patients need it most. Nurses in this department gain exposure to complex emergency, trauma, cardiac, stroke, critical care, and specialty cases while building advanced clinical skills in a collaborative environment. Sentara Norfolk General Emergency Department has been recognized with the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award, honoring exceptional and innovative leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research. Education Requirements * Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required * BSN or MSN preferred * Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered Certification/Licensure Requirements * Registered Nurse license required * Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered * Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire * NIHSS, TCRN, SCRN, TNCC, CEN, PALS, and ACLS preferred Experience Requirements * Prior RN experience preferred * Emergency Department experience preferred * Strong candidates with related acute care, critical care, intermediate care, trauma, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region's first Magnet hospital, a 525-bed medical center, a primary teaching facility, and home to the area's only Level I Trauma Center within a 126-mile region.
