Behavioral Health Therapist
Join N Street Village, Washington, DC’s leading community dedicated to supporting and empowering women experiencing homelessness as our Behavioral Health Therapist. In this role, you will walk alongside women as they navigate mental health challenges, substance use, and life transitions, honoring each individual’s lived experience and inherent worth. You will be part of a collaborative care community that values connection, trust, and equity, and work intentionally to create spaces where healing can begin.
A key aspect of this role is serving as a welcoming first point of clinical connection. You will conduct thoughtful, trauma informed intake assessments for women seeking mental health services, ensuring that each individual feels seen, heard, and supported from the very first interaction. Through your presence and practice, you will help cultivate a sense of safety and belonging, laying the foundation for meaningful engagement and long-term wellness.

Core Responsibilities
Clinical & Therapeutic Services
- · Conduct comprehensive intake assessments for clients seeking behavioral health support
- · Develop individualized treatment plans based on client goals and needs
- · Provide individual and group therapy using evidence-based approaches
- · Facilitate psychoeducation and support groups that promote healing and self-empowerment
- · Manage a caseload of 15–20 clients across various N Street Village programs
Crisis Support
- · Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for crisis consultation
- · Provide de-escalation and emergency coordination when needed
Collaboration & Coordination
- Collaborate with internal staff and external providers for holistic client care
- Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and contributing to staff development
Documentation & Compliance
- · Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records
- · Ensure compliance with licensing standards and program reporting requirements
Qualifications & Required Experience
- · Education & Licensure
- · Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
- · DC licensure (LPC, LGPC, LICSW, LGSW, or equivalent)
- · CAC certification a plus, but not required
Professional Experience
- At least 1 year of clinical experience, ideally in trauma-informed or community-based settings
- Experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
- Familiarity with crisis intervention and treatment planning

- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Cultural humility and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Proficiency in clinical documentation and use of DSM-5-TR

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- This position is primarily performed onsite within program, shelter, and community-based service environments that support individuals experiencing homelessness and complex health needs. Duties may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25–50 pounds.
- The role involves regular, direct interaction with clients in environments where there may be exposure to communicable diseases, behavioral health crises, and other public health-related risks. All practicum participants are required to adhere to established organizational policies and procedures related to infection prevention and control, OSHA standards, universal precautions, and workplace safety protocols.
- Appropriate training, personal protective equipment (PPE), and supervisory guidance are provided to mitigate risk and ensure a safe and compliant working environment. Practicum participants are expected to comply with all health and safety requirements, including any mandated screenings, immunizations, or reporting protocols, in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as contractual obligations.
