THE POSITION
Position enforces the laws of this state and county and provides the residents of the county with full range of law enforcement and related social services on demand, as prescribed by Oregon law, county ordinance, and judicial precedent. Full-time 40 hour per week position. Includes excellent benefit package, including medical/vision/dental/long-term disability/basic life coverage and County-paid PERS retirement after required waiting periods. Onsite (Courthouse complex) childcare available at a discounted employee rate through Roseburg Professional Childcare (Fowler St. location only). Availability is subject to center waitlist.

SCREENING & EVALUATION Physical Examination/Drug Screen: ORPAT Testing will require physical exertion, and proper attire should be worn for running, jumping, climbing, crawling, vaulting, falling, pushing, and pulling. An 'Informed Consent, Waiver and Release' form is required and must be signed prior to applicant testing for the Physical Ability Test (form provided at the testing location at time of testing). In order to prepare for the Oregon Physical Abilities Test it is recommended that applicants use the following link to view the informational video:
ORPAT will be scheduled at a later date. Selection Process: Screening of applicants based upon minimum qualifications listed above; completion of a written examination and physical ability test; oral interview; extensive background investigation; psychological test; physical exam and chemical detection screen. - Applicants must complete Successful recent (within the past twelve months) FrontLine test with National Testing Network ((NTN) OR possess a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited, degree-granting college or university recognized by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization under the provisions of ORS 348-604.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Sheriff's Office Requires the Following Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age by the time of certification
- Must be a United States citizen or be one within eighteen (18) months of hire.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate of high school equivalency.
- Must have an acceptable driving record and the ability to obtain a valid driver's license. Applicants for this position must meet the requirements of the Must be free from convictions of crime other than minor traffic violations.
- Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation.
- Must pass an extensive post-offer pre-employment physical assessment and psychological evaluation. Accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation.
- Must successfully pass a post offer pre- employment drug test.
- Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State.
- Visual and Hearing Acuity: Must meet the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements as detailed in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-0080010(8),
- Must be able to be certified by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
- Must meet the Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer as provided for in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0010.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
