This position serves as a key shift supervisor responsible for overseeing operations within a dormitory, housing unit, or compound at Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC). RLCC is a Class 2 correctional facility housing up to 1,808 adult male offenders ranging from minimum to maximum custody.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

  1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

  2. One year of experience in any field; OR

  3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Assigns daily posts and responsibilities to subordinate officers to ensure proper staffing levels and consistent security coverage throughout the facility.

  • Provides on-the-job training and guidance to ensure officers fully understand their duties, responsibilities, and performance expectations.

  • Counsels staff and offenders on daily operational or behavioral issues, addressing concerns that may impact safety, security, or the overall functioning of the institution.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: DETAIL OF A permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

  • An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if a position becomes available.

Compensation: This position has aSpecial Entrance Rate (SER)of $26.79 per hour.

There is ‘Premium Pay’ for this position:A rate between $.50 an hour and $1.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
