Job Summary:

The Histotechnologist is responsible for performing a variety of histological procedures on tissue specimens under the supervision of laboratory staff. This role ensures the accurate identification, processing, and preparation of tissue samples for diagnostic purposes, supporting pathologists in their analysis.

Responsibilities:

• 
  Prepare tissue specimens for histological examination by assigning accession numbers and accurately recording patient and specimen details.
  
  
• 
  Assist pathologists with gross examination, providing labeled tissue cassettes, operating tissue processors, and offering necessary support.
  
  
• 
  Cut sections from embedded tissue blocks, stain slides, and deliver prepared slides promptly for microscopic review.
  
  
• 
  Perform frozen section preparation immediately upon receipt of specimens, ensuring rapid processing for diagnosis.
  
  
• 
  Conduct special histochemical staining procedures as requested by the pathologist, ensuring timely completion for reports.
  
  
• 
  Properly file, index, and store tissue slides and blocks, maintaining access and retention standards for future reference and disposal.
  
  

Qualifications:

• 
  Must be certified as a Histotechnologist by ASCP or hold an equivalent certification.
  
  
• 
  Demonstrate proficiency in histological and histochemical techniques, including slide preparation and staining.
  
  
• 
  Possess detailed knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning procedures.
  
  
• 
  Exhibit strong attention to detail in specimen labeling, documentation, and storage.
  
  
• 
  Have excellent organizational skills to manage workflow and sample retrieval efficiently.
