MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


St. Rita Catholic School is a Catholic, co-educational day school for students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. St. Rita Catholic School empowers students to reach their potential as learners and servant leaders through faith, hope, love, and the joyful pursuit of knowledge.

LOCATION: Dallas, Texas

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the St. Rita Administration, the Catholic school instructional aide is responsible for working as a member of an instructional team to help deliver instruction and support grade-level teachers. The Instructional Aide works directly with students to create a smaller student-teacher ratio. Instructional Aides support St. Rita Catholic School in its mission "to empower students to reach their potential as learners and servant leaders through faith, hope, love, and the joyful pursuit of knowledge."

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Abide by all policies as outlined in the Catholic Schools Office Handbook of Policies and Procedures for Elementary and Secondary Schools; TCCB ED Guide to Quality and Effectiveness
• Demonstrate through word and deed, an example of Christian witness, a real pride, confidence, and conviction in the teaching profession and Catholic education
• Work collaboratively and kindly with all members of the Administration, Dean Team, Student Success Center, and Instructional Team to plan, deliver, and assess instruction according to St. Rita School Policy
• Work with members of the assigned teaching team, including instructional specialists and case managers, to differentiate instruction for individual students
• Act as a member of a team by contributing ideas, work products, and behaving in a collegial manner with a cooperative spirit to work with the grade level, team level, and entire school and parish
• Demonstrate empathy in relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and other community members by genuinely considering others' feelings, value systems, interests, achievements, and concerns
• Be punctual, present, and attentive at all duties as stated by the SRCS faculty handbook
• Attend meetings and after-school events, as outlined in the calendar

St. Rita School's Academic and Faith Formation Programs

• Help the classroom teacher foster a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
• Work with small groups of students
• Teach directed lessons to large or small groups of students
• Assist with the preparation of projects and activities
• Supervise students on the playground, at carpool, and in the Dining Hall
• Take over for a teacher for short periods, as necessary
• Help grade papers as needed
• Follow and implement the behavior management systems: The Spartan Way
• Using the adopted behavior management systems, assist the teacher in establishing a consistent disciplinary approach to increase faith practices through education on virtues and the integration of faith through prayer and virtue-based activities

St. Rita Instructional Aide Skill Set and Expectations

• Supervisory role for student movement through buildings, during recess, during lunch, morning, and after-school carpool
• Utilize the equipment in the workroom once trained
• Monitor students closely
• Communicate to the classroom teacher with any concerns or observations, but allow the classroom teacher, only, to communicate with parents about students
• Abide by the Confidentiality Policy
• Attend any grade-level special events such as parent nights, performances, and field trips

• Develop technology skills to support instruction
• Minister to students by continuously assessing needs to implement strategies as well as solutions, while holding the mindset that aides serve in a parish school

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must meet the minimum requirements for instructional aides as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB ED
• Must meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration
