This role involves conducting diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies in the echocardiography lab, including Stress Echo Sonography and TAVRS procedures, or holding multiple registries.

Key Accountabilities and Performance Criteria:

Essential Functions:

• Ultrasound Procedures: Conduct ultrasound exams following department protocols. (60-75%)
  • Perform various echocardiography techniques, including 2D, 3D, M-mode, color flow, Doppler flow, and stress echocardiograms, adhering to established standards.
  • Effectively communicate and explain procedures to patients and their families to ensure understanding and consent.
  • Evaluate patients' medical histories prior to exams.
  • Compile patient information and enter it into the PACS System or Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Document all imaging studies for review by the Medical Director or designated personnel.
• Billing: Ensure accurate and timely patient billing. (5%)
  • Enter charges daily with minimal errors.
  • Print reports and verify correct account numbers and procedures.
• Department Support: Contribute to departmental goals and new program development. (5%)
  • Engage in the creation of new diagnostic testing procedures and evaluate new equipment.
  • Educate residents and staff on technical aspects and limitations.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through educational programs and required CEUs.
  • Involve in research studies requiring departmental services.
• Safety and Infection Control: Adhere to safety and infection control policies. (3-5%)
  • Follow universal precautions and dispose of hazardous waste properly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Complete all mandatory training and requirements.
• Customer Service: Provide excellent service to all hospital customers. (2-5%)
  • Demonstrate care and courtesy to patients and colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Attend departmental meetings to support the organization's mission.
• Performance Improvement: Integrate quality assessment into daily tasks. (2-3%)
  • Assist in collecting data for the department’s performance improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend efficiency improvements to management.
• Age-Appropriate Care: Provide care suitable for various age groups. (1%)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development for patients of all ages.
  • Involve family in decision-making regarding care.
• Specialized Care: Offer specialized care for high-risk patients. (<1%)
  • Implement restraint protocols and monitor patient responses.
  • Follow pain management plans and report concerns.
  • Recognize and report signs of abuse or neglect.
• Operational Support: Assist in daily departmental operations. (1-3%)
  • Utilize work order systems for maintenance requests.
  • Assist with clerical duties as needed.

Minimum Education: Graduate of an Allied Health program in Echocardiography/Cardiac Imaging.

Minimum Experience: Registered (RDCS and/or RCS).

Required Certifications: BLS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS.

• Administrative: Ability to compile statistics, manage paperwork, and utilize computer systems.
• Technical: Proficient with ultrasound and Doppler equipment, EMR systems, and digital archiving.

Exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, and hazardous materials is possible. The role may involve irregular hours and emergency situations.

• Ability to lift and transfer patients, sometimes exceeding 350 lbs.
• Frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity required.

• Ability to adjust vision for varying light conditions and distinguish subtle shades.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
• Or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with Adult or Pediatric Echocardiography Specialty - ARDMS
