Senior State & Local Tax Consultant

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior State & Local Tax Consultant to join our dynamic tax consulting team. In this role, you will deliver high-quality sales and use tax advisory services, provide technical expertise on complex tax issues, and support client engagements from inception through resolution. This position is ideal for a seasoned tax professional looking to deepen their technical expertise and contribute to innovative solutions for our diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities

• Client Advisory & Project Management:
  • Manage and execute sales and use tax compliance, planning, and consulting projects for a range of clients.
  • Analyze tax positions, identify risks, and develop strategies to optimize tax outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, communicating complex tax concepts and solutions effectively to clients.
• Technical Expertise & Research:
  • Stay abreast of developments in state and local tax laws.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to support tax positions and recommendations.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and presentations for internal and client use.
• Collaboration & Business Development:
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to integrate tax strategies into broader business solutions.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, thought leadership articles, and client presentations.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide guidance on technical issues as needed.
• Operational Excellence:
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
  • Continuously seek process improvements and contribute to the overall growth and efficiency of the practice.

Qualifications

• Education & Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA, JD, or Master’s in Taxation) is a plus.
• Experience:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in sales and use tax consulting, public accounting, or corporate tax roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex tax projects and client engagements.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of state and local tax laws.
  • Proficiency in tax research and compliance software.
• Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for translating complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines.
