HVAC Preventative Maintenance Helper – Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune Perform preventive maintenance of various types of commercial HVAC equipment to ensure machines run smoothly. Assist journeymen by providing materials and tools, holding supplies, and cleaning work areas and equipment. Follow all health and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Inspect motors, pulleys, belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions following checklists. Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery. Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts. Repair or replace parts and reassemble equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Essential Skills Some knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in heating and cooling equipment and machinery. Works effectively in a team. Follows verbal instructions and adheres to policies and procedures. Adaptable and flexible in work situations. Prioritizes tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner. Practices workplace safety when using tools, equipment, and supplies for HVAC repair, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. 1+ year of related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in building or utility trades. Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act or willingness to obtain one. Pass pre‑employment drug screening and background check. Regular, dependable attendance. Availability for overtime, evenings, and weekends. U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations. Preferred Qualifications Basic knowledge of HVAC refrigeration and/or systems. CFC License or ability to obtain a CFC License (minimum Type 2) within 90 days of employment. Physical Requirements Lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. Use of hands, reaching, talking, and walking. Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping. Climb ladders and enter confined spaces. Lifting and adjusting heavy objects; contact with sharp, hot, or cold supplies and equipment.
