Security Assistant - Greenwood High School
This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school environment across both the interior building and the exterior campus perimeter. This multi-faceted role involves directing vehicular traffic, enforcing school regulations, monitoring student attendance and behavior, and serving as a visible deterrent to unauthorized activities.
Qualifications: Sixty semester hours of postsecondary work; or an associate's degree or above; or successful completion of state Para Professional Test. Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills. Experience working with adolescents or in a youth-centric environment is highly desirable. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting clearance.
Salary Scale: Grade 12 of the Classified Salary Schedule / 180 Days
Duties:
- Exterior Safety & Traffic Control
- Traffic Flow: Direct incoming and outgoing vehicular traffic during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal to ensure student pedestrian safety.
- Permit Enforcement: Monitor parked vehicles to ensure all student and staff cars display valid school parking permits; issue warnings or citations according to school policy.
- Perimeter Patrol: Patrol parking structures, campus lots, and exterior perimeters on foot or via golf cart to monitor for unauthorized visitors, loitering, vandalism, or suspicious activity.
- Interior Safety & Student Supervision
- Hallway Patrol: Routinely patrol corridors, cafeteria, restrooms, and common areas during class periods to minimize loitering, unexcused absences, and disruptive behavior.
- Pass Verification: Check students in the hallways for valid hall passes or authorized schedules, and escort unexcused students back to their assigned classrooms.
- Access Control: Monitor and ensure exterior doors remain locked and secure throughout the school day while looking out for potential campus safety hazards.
- Transition Supervision: Assist with student supervision during high-traffic transition periods, including morning arrival, class changes, and lunch shifts.
- Communication & Incident Reporting
- Administration Reporting: Promptly report any accidents, property damage, behavioral infractions, medical emergencies, or safety hazards to school administration.
- Rapport Building: Build positive rapport with students, staff, and visitors while maintaining firm boundaries and encouraging a respectful school culture.
