About the Opportunity

Our client is a growing boutique financial services and fractional CFO firm that works closely with business owners, CEOs, and finance leaders across accounting, controllership, and strategic finance.

The firm supports clients across a range of industries, including consumer packaged goods, retail, inventory-based businesses, and nonprofits.

Our client is looking for a strong accounting professional to support the day-to-day accounting needs of multiple clients. This is a hands-on role where you will spend significant time working in QuickBooks and other accounting platforms, coding and reviewing transactions, performing reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, completing month-end close, and managing recurring accounting processes.

The ideal candidate brings stronger accounting judgment, critical thinking, communication skills, and independence than a traditional bookkeeper. You should be comfortable recognizing when something doesn't make sense, investigating issues independently, communicating directly with clients, and taking ownership of your work.

Over time, the right person will have opportunities to take on additional review and controllership responsibilities, as well as support financial analysis, KPI reporting, cash forecasting, profitability analysis, and fractional CFO engagements.

What You Will Do

Accounting & Controllership

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities across multiple client engagements.
• Code, review, and maintain financial transactions across client accounts.
• Perform account reconciliations and month-end close activities.
• Maintain accurate general ledgers and financial records.
• Prepare and review financial statements and management reports.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, cash payments, and other recurring accounting processes.
• Assist with more complex accounting areas, including inventory, cost of goods sold, accruals, and other calculations.
• Review bookkeeping work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Identify accounting issues, investigate discrepancies, and determine appropriate treatment.
• Help maintain quality and consistency across the accounting processes of multiple clients.
• Take on more complex accounting and controllership responsibilities as your experience with the firm grows.
• Work primarily in QuickBooks and Excel, with the ability to learn and adapt to other accounting systems as needed.

Client Management & Communication

• Independently manage the accounting responsibilities and deadlines for a portfolio of clients.
• Keep track of multiple month-end closes, outstanding requests, deadlines, and client communications.
• Communicate directly with U.S.-based business owners, CEOs, CFOs, and other stakeholders.
• Explain accounting concepts and financial information clearly to non-accounting stakeholders.
• Build trust with clients through responsiveness, accuracy, professionalism, and sound judgment.
• Proactively identify issues and communicate them before they become larger problems.
• Take ownership of client deliverables without requiring constant direction or follow-up.

Financial Analysis & Growth Opportunities

As you become established in the role, you will have opportunities to expand beyond core accounting responsibilities and support the firm's broader financial services.

• Analyze financial statements and business performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Build and maintain financial models and analyses in Excel.
• Support KPI reporting and management reporting.
• Analyze profitability, margins, working capital, inventory, and other key financial drivers.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
• Help translate financial data into clear insights for business owners and executives.
• Assist with fractional CFO engagements and strategic financial projects as your capabilities develop.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant accounting, finance, or public accounting experience.
• Strong accounting fundamentals and a solid understanding of financial statements.
• Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Fluency in QuickBooks.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Experience managing accounting responsibilities across multiple clients or entities is strongly preferred.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, or management reporting is preferred.
• CPA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent professional accounting qualification is preferred.
• Experience supporting U.S.-based companies or clients.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Comfortable communicating directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
• Strong accounting judgment and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve accounting issues independently.
• Highly organized and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
• Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and doing the work, rather than simply reviewing the work of others.
