Job Summary:

The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) provides skilled nursing care to patients in the emergency department, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with interdisciplinary team members. The role involves patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and documentation in accordance with standards of care and state laws. The ER RN is responsible for developing individualized patient care plans, participating in performance improvement activities, and ensuring patient safety and quality care in a fast-paced emergency setting. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care in the emergency department.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing techniques, policies, and state practice acts.
• Document patient care accurately and according to standards of care.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient care plans, including patient and family education.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient care and longitudinal plans.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement and shared governance activities.
• Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units or departments as needed.
• Apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety and experience, escalating concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
• Engage in professional nursing development, unit practice decisions, and peer review processes.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TNS (Trauma Nursing Specialist) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in emergency nursing or critical care settings.
• Participation in professional nursing development and performance improvement initiatives.

Special Considerations:

• Work in a fast-paced emergency room environment requiring critical thinking and rapid decision-making.
• Must adhere to departmental policies, standards of care, and state nursing practice acts.
• May be required to participate in shared governance and peer review processes.

Scheduling:

• Mid-shift hours with weekend rotation.
• 36 hours per week schedule.
