Job Summary Job Location: BHI Bristol Hospital Main Campus – Bristol, CT 06010. Position Type: Full Time. Education Level: 2 Year Degree. Job Shift: 1st Shift (Days). Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Perform radioactive isotope and therapeutic procedures. Receive orders for examinations, verify orders in the patient chart, check for prior exams, and transport patients as required. Review clinical information to determine isotope type, quantity, and route of administration. Administer isotope and other prescribed medication orally or by injection following injection standards. Independently perform standard and special procedures using in‑depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, exercising judgment to maintain diagnostic quality and patient tolerance; discontinue exams if condition warrants. Set up complex electronic and computerized instruments to conduct exams and collect, process, and analyze specimens for test of various body fluids; calculate results and document to appropriate forms for radiologist interpretation. Process films using automated equipment. Explain procedures to patients, provide preparatory instructions, and reassure anxious patients. Schedule in‑ and out‑patients procedures, coordinate timing to minimize delays, and provide direction and assistance to support staff. Communicate defective or inoperable instruments to supervisor for repairs and read reports to authorized staff or physicians over the phone. Update departmental records for patients, equipment, and isotopes; maintain accurate records of usage, storage, and disposal of all radioactive materials. Conduct daily radiation level surveys, wipe tests, and other monitoring procedures; maintain files of all films, records, and reports of isotope patients by history number. Maintain instrument and work area cleanliness, coordinate waste disposal with GSA and General Service staff. Perform quality assurance procedures, maintain records, assist in preparation of reports for the Radiation Safety Committee and the NRC, and work with consultant physicist on safety program and radioactive material handling. Periodically check and test instruments to assure proper working order, perform daily quality assurance tests and flood cameras, and maintain supplies at prescribed levels. Perform or assist in daily maintenance and minor repairs of equipment as qualified. Maintain equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition; maintain sterile technique when administering radioactive materials. Review films for quality and readability, taking steps required to assure quality control standards. Complete STAT reports and deliver to proper personnel. Gather statistical information as required, assist with training and orientation of new staff, and evaluate new equipment recommendations. Perform clerical tasks in absence of clerical staff and participate in scheduling, technical information gathering, interviewing of sales people, etc. Assume designated responsibilities of Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist when absent, distribute work assignments, and participate in the on‑call rotation. Attend staff meetings and monthly in‑services, acknowledging all tests to generate patient charges on a daily basis. Qualifications High school graduate. Graduation from a two‑year accredited program in radiologic technology and a two‑year accredited program in nuclear medicine. One to two years’ experience in a Nuclear Medical Radiology department (preferred). State/Federal Licensure or Certification: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Registration from ARRT or CNMT. Connecticut state license not required. Orientation and annual training in Fire/Safety/Infection Control and other hospital‑mandated programs. Basic knowledge of radiology and nuclear medicine equipment. Physical capability for extended standing, walking, occasional bending, reaching, stooping, and some heavy lifting. Excellent communication skills; exceptional organizational and planning ability. Benefits Eligible for a $7,500 sign‑on bonus.
