More About Our Team At Highpoint Health - Trousdale, our Patient Access team works in a small, close-knit hospital environment where collaboration, dependability, and exceptional service are valued. With a lower patient volume than many larger facilities, team members have the opportunity to build relationships across departments while gaining experience registering patients across the full continuum-from Emergency Department and outpatient services to inpatient and swing-bed care. How You'll Contribute A Patient Access Representative who excels in this role: Greet patients and visitors and provide a welcoming, professional first impression of the facility. Register patients for Emergency Department, outpatient, inpatient, and swing-bed services, ensuring demographic, insurance, financial, billing, and other required information is collected and accurately entered into the registration system. Verify insurance coverage and benefits and obtain precertification or authorizations when required. Determine and collect applicable co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments at the point of service; refer patients to financial counseling when appropriate. Distribute and explain required forms, documents, and educational materials to patients and families. Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and families in person and by phone, including individuals who may be ill, concerned, frustrated, or upset. Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when addressing patient questions or concerns and assist with de-escalating difficult interactions when necessary. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and appropriately safeguard protected health information. Utilize Meditech and other required systems to accurately and efficiently complete registration activities. Work independently after completion of training while using sound judgment and seeking assistance when appropriate. Collaborate with Patient Access colleagues, nursing, clinical departments, and facility leadership to support efficient patient flow and hospital operations. Provide coverage across registration functions and adjust to alternate shifts or areas as needed to support department staffing and operational needs. Participate in required education, competency training, and performance‑improvement activities. What We're Looking For Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional requirements include: Previous patient registration, healthcare, medical office, clerical, or customer service experience preferred but not required. Previous experience working directly with the public; experience serving an elderly population is a plus. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with a diverse patient population. Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional when interacting with patients or family members who may be upset, frustrated, or experiencing a stressful situation. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to accurately collect and enter patient information. Comfortable using computers as a regular part of daily work and able to quickly learn and navigate multiple software applications. Ability to learn and retain new processes, terminology, and registration procedures. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and independently once fully trained. Dependable with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality. Flexible and team-oriented, with the ability to adjust to changing coverage needs in a small hospital environment. Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to complete required education and competency requirements within established timeframes.
