Instructional Services Coordinator - Physical Sciences Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring an Instructional Services Coordinator to join the Physical Sciences Department. The position serves as the operational lead for Physical Sciences laboratories, ensuring instructional spaces are organized, compliant, and fully prepared to support teaching and learning across chemistry, physics, geology, and engineering. Job Summary This role will work closely with faculty and laboratory staff to coordinate projects, maintain continuity of operations, and support high‑quality lab experiences. The Coordinator will independently manage day‑to‑day activities and provide leadership in the absence of the senior coordinator. The position requires in‑person work. Essential Functions Collaborate with faculty and staff to design, implement, and continuously improve instructional laboratories. Evaluate laboratory effectiveness, quality, and outcomes, and recommend modifications or enhancements to instructional activities. Provide technical and operational support to ensure instructional programs are resourced and executed. Assist in the administration of laboratory budgets, purchasing, and procurement activities. Coordinate inventory control for equipment, chemicals, and instructional supplies to ensure accuracy and availability. Support vendor communication and purchasing decisions aligned with program needs and institutional guidelines. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of laboratory safety programs, policies, and standard operating procedures. Support regulatory compliance governing laboratory operations and hazardous materials management. Oversee and monitor proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials. Serve as the lead worker for daily laboratory operations. Assist in planning, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing staff work. Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to laboratory staff. Participate in recruitment, evaluation, disciplinary, and termination processes as assigned. Perform project management activities for laboratory and instructional program initiatives, including operational planning, logistics coordination, timeline development, and implementation oversight. Ensure projects are completed efficiently and in alignment with departmental objectives. Collect, monitor, and evaluate operational and instructional data. Prepare reports, proposals, and program materials. Oversee maintenance of laboratory files, records, and documentation. Assist in the preparation, administration, and collection of assessment and program evaluation materials to support continuous improvement efforts. Other duties as assigned commensurate with the grade level of the position. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related program area and one year of full‑time‑equivalent program coordination experience, or Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related program area and three years of full‑time‑equivalent program coordination experience. Any equivalent combination of degree and directly related full‑time work experience sufficient to perform the duties may also be considered. Desired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field. Two years of experience working in a chemistry laboratory setting. Two years of experience in a supervisory role. Experience with laboratory safety protocols and compliance regulations, including the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Experience coordinating with staff and faculty on the technical and operational aspects of science labs. Experience with ordering and purchasing for a laboratory setting. One year of full‑time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years. Special Working Conditions May require viewing a computer monitor for a prolonged period. Exposure to chemicals, fumes, particulates, and organisms that may present health hazards if not handled according to safety protocols. May require lifting objects up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation. Evening hours may be required. Benefits Nationwide Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage.
