Increase your chances of reaching the interview stage by reading the complete job description and applying promptly.

Ready to design something more challenging?

If you're an experienced fire sprinkler designer who has mastered the routine commercial work and wants to take on larger, more complex systems, we should talk.

North American Fire Protection (NAFPCO) is growing our Design team in  Fort Wayne, Indiana and/or Palm Coast, Florida , and we're looking for a Fire Sprinkler Designer who wants more than simply turning out drawings. Our designers work on complex design-build fire protection projects across the country, including  cold storage, food processing, industrial distribution, pharmaceutical, data center and mission-critical facilities.

These are projects where design matters. You'll work through challenging storage configurations, ESFR applications, dry and preaction systems, fire pumps, tanks, risers, BIM coordination and demanding construction schedules—and you'll work directly with the people responsible for actually building what you design.

What You'll Own

You'll take responsibility for fire sprinkler design from project award through coordination, fabrication and installation. That includes:

  • Developing accurate, code-compliant and constructible fire sprinkler system designs
  • Designing wet, dry, preaction, ESFR, storage and other water-based fire protection systems
  • Performing hydraulic calculations and determining appropriate design criteria
  • Working in Revit, AutoCAD, HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK or similar fire protection design platforms
  • Coordinating sprinkler systems through BIM with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, process piping and other trades
  • Reviewing architectural and engineering documents, specifications and project requirements
  • Identifying clashes, scope gaps and constructability issues before they become field problems
  • Preparing stocklists, material takeoffs and fabrication information
  • Coordinating design releases with Project Management, Purchasing, Fabrication and Field Operations
  • Supporting foremen and field teams when installation conditions require technical input
  • Managing revisions, permit drawings, record drawings and as-built documentation
  • Taking ownership of your design schedule and communicating issues early

We're Looking for a Designer Who Thinks Beyond the Drawing

The strongest designers understand that getting a drawing approved isn't the finish line.

A successful design has to be code-compliant, coordinated, fabricatable and installable.

We're looking for someone who can look at a project and anticipate what could go wrong before material is fabricated or crews are standing in the field trying to solve it.

You may be a strong fit if you have:

  • 5+ years of fire sprinkler design experience
  • NICET Water-Based Systems Layout certification is required, with Level II+ strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13
  • Experience performing hydraulic calculations
  • Experience producing construction-ready sprinkler drawings
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK or comparable fire protection design software
  • Experience with commercial and/or industrial fire protection systems
  • An understanding of BIM coordination, fabrication and field constructability
  • The ability to manage your own responsibilities, deadlines and project priorities
  • Experience with storage occupancies, ESFR, cold storage, food processing, distribution centers or complex industrial facilities is a major plus.

Why North American?

We're building a fire protection company designed to take on difficult work.

NAFPCO specializes in national design-build fire protection projects where strong technical design, coordination and execution make a measurable difference.

We're growing—and that creates opportunity for people who want to take ownership, expand their technical capabilities and help shape how a growing Design department operates.

If you're already designing sprinkler systems but feel like you've outgrown the work you're doing, we'd like to hear from you.

You don't need to be actively looking for a new job to have a conversation.
