Position Description

Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the Estimator is to accurately account for all labor, material, quotes, and general expenses for any given project. This position also represents the company through internal and external communication with personnel, clients, vendors and management. The role requires taking responsibility for a complete takeoff that starts at receiving the RFP or ITB and ends at delivering a complete proposal and estimate to the Preconstruction Manager for review. This includes but is not limited to downloading/locating all related project documents, submitting necessary RFI's needed to perform a complete estimate.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Understand and work with electrical estimating software such as Accubid Enterprise and LiveCount
  • Oversee and review all contract documents for a complete understanding of the scope of work
  • Fully understand the project schedule and incorporate any impacts into the estimate
  • Monitor material and labor pricing on a continuous basis to account for market changes
  • Communicate scope, technical and project information to team members.
  • Verify takeoff of peers to ensure work is conducted in accordance with the plan
  • Breakdown the project in a way that allows the Operations team to track labor and meet labor objectives along with project milestones
  • Direct vendors including but not limited to suppliers, reps, and subcontractors to adequately cover the scope necessary for any given project as well as review their corresponding proposals
  • Provide assistance in material and labor takeoffs associated with project changes; comply with company policy regarding performance of change order work
  • Maintain all records and paper work on the project for complete documentation including but not limited to email correspondence, RFI's, takeoff records, prebid photos, schedule information etc.
  • Represent the company professionally at company meetings
  • Submit information relative to performance/conduct to Human Resource Department for disciplinary and merit actions for employees under their supervision.
  • In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, address employee grievances and disputes for resolution, as appropriate
  • Advise the Preconstruction Manager of any potential problems or issues that may impact the takeoff accuracy, risk outside of normal company appetite, create delay that results in failure to meet scheduled deadlines, etc Seek the newest and most efficient best methods and materials for the proposal to be competitive
  • Additional duties, as required
Position Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Technical competence in commercial electrical estimating as demonstrated by a minimum of 3 years' experience
  • Experience with Accubid Enterprise, Accubid Live Count a plus
  • Must have experience with Estimating Software
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schedules, specifications, and contracts
  • Good leadership and organization skills
  • Ability to deal with diverse people and personalities at all levels
  • Ability to multi task in stressful and adverse conditions
  • Open, honest, direct, credible and candid communications at all times
  • Computer literacy in Word and Excel or participation in training
  • Exposure to variety of electrical installations and project types

Employee is routinely required to attend jobsite walks that may include uneven ground; climbing ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; properly lift and carry 50 pounds. Manual dexterity is required. Specific vision abilities required by the job include color vision.

This is an indoor desk job that occasionally requires visiting a construction site requiring proper personal protective equipment be worn during that time onsite. Employee is routinely exposed to the weather conditions prevalent at the time.
