Job Description The Manager-Invasive Cardiology reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory and accreditation standards. The Manager holds authority and accountability for the management of invasive cardiology departments as well as cardiovascular clinical programs. Invasive cardiology responsibilities include management oversight for the: Cardiac Catheterization Labs Electrophysiology Labs Cardiology Recovery Observation Unit (CROU) Cardiovascular programs include management oversight for various programs and their staff, including but not limited to: Cardiac Surgery post-op management (i.e. mid-level providers) General Cardiology/Heart Failure (i.e. mid-level providers, nurses) Ventricular Assist Devices and Heart Transplant program (i.e., mid-level providers, nurses) Other niche programs (e.g., bicuspid aortic valve program, atrial fibrillation program) Collaborates with leadership and cardiovascular management counterparts to advance quality strategies, ensure a professional work environment, facilitate timeliness of services, and enhance patient satisfaction. The Manager is responsible for fiscal, human resources, and quality outcomes for their defined service area or unit. The Manager places the needs of the patient and other customers as a first priority and demonstrates the skills necessary to meet and exceed expectations. The Manager guides others toward a clearly defined, clearly communicated vision and engages individuals and groups to achieve that vision. The Manager identifies and develops organizational talent and embraces continuous learning for self and others. Responsibilities Core Skills: Clinical Care Manager Provides clinical staff with a cardiovascular service environment that supports their professional practice, health, and well-being Coaches, mentors, and develops staff in their professional practice Advances professional practice through education and certification Facilitates onboarding of new staff Promotes development of staff by creating individualized development plans Partners with other health professionals and leadership to support the patient experience Collaborates in the development of annual performance evaluations Collaboratively manages the disciplinary process when appropriate Serves as the clinical expert for the specific patient population and is accountable for implementing evidence-based practice Advances patient care through the implementation of evidence-based practice Collaborates with medical/clinical leadership in care coordination Ensures sustained Control phase of DMAIC for all process improvement initiatives Attends Clinical Care Evaluation Committee (CCEC) Designs and implements clinical protocols and quality improvements Maintains and improves the department or unit’s quality of care and/or service Promotes innovation and research to advance patient care models Encourages, mentors, and coaches staff in advancing innovation through research and evidence Attracts, develops, and retains exceptional caregivers and provides them with an environment that fosters excellence through continuous learning Collaborates with Human Resources and other managers to ensure appropriate staffing Advances innovative retention strategies for staff Collaboratively manages the disciplinary process when appropriate Facilitates the annual performance review process Ensures application of staffing tools and optimal staffing across shifts. Qualifications Required: One of the following degrees: Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school/college of nursing OR degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program Progressive leadership with two-three years of management experience Clinical professional expertise Demonstrates personal alignment with NMH’s core values of integrity, excellence, patients first, and teamwork Effective communication and interpersonal skills Proficient problem solving and decision making skills, with ability to confront and resolve issues Ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of others Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois Current license as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois OR Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulatory APN Board Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program Current license as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Illinois Preferred: Master’s degree preferred Cardiology or Cardiac Surgery clinical experience Certification in area of specialty or administration Additional Information Northwestern Medicine is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected status.
