Travel RN - ICU

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Multi-Care ICU/PCU night shift position requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Job Details

• 13-week travel assignment in an acute care hospital setting on a combined-acuity Multi Care Unit (ICU/PCU/MST),
• 10-bed unit with ratios varying by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5-6, or 1:3 primary care if no nurse aide is available,
• Common ICU diagnoses include sepsis, suicide attempt, drug or alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, and post-op complications,
• PCU patients require non-titratable infusions to manage heart rate or blood pressure,
• RNs are required to titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin,
• Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds across MST, Peds, and the Acuity Adaptable MCU unit,
• Nurse aides typically care for 10-15 patients when available,
• Respiratory Therapy supports ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment,
• Telemetry monitoring in place with Remote Monitor Techs supporting PCU and MST patients,
• RNs must perform 12-lead EKGs and monitor ICU patients via bedside cardiac monitor,
• Uses Cerner EMR,
• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730) with an every-other-weekend requirement (Friday/Saturday nights),
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis to ensure fair distribution,
• Low census may result in standby rotation,
• First to float among staff, including to the EC MST & Pediatric unit and the West Campus in Prescott for ICU/PCU coverage, with two-hour notice provided,
• Any scrub color permitted except camouflage,

Job Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required,
• BLS and ACLS certifications required,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, or 1 year ICU plus 1 year PCU/Med-Surg experience at larger facilities with strong clinical skills,
• BSN not required,
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract,
• Must pass a sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation,
• Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility,
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration,
• Active state license verification and Nursys verification required at time of submission,

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across ICU, PCU, and MST acuity levels within the same unit without floating between units,
• Attend hospital and unit-specific orientation,
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position,
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year,
• Candidates who previously worked in a permanent role at another CommonSpirit facility within the last 12 months are not eligible,
• Failure to pass the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exams within two attempts results in ineligibility for AZ and Sacramento assignments for 6 months,
• Cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract, or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks
