This is a high-risk L&D environment caring for:

• High-risk labor
• Antepartum patients
• Epidurals
• Insulin drips
• IV Magnesium
• Preterm labor
• OR/C-section cases — circulating required
• Baby nurse at delivery

Uses AWHONN standards

• Typically 1 labor patient per nurse
• 2–3 antepartum patients per nurse

Support includes:

• 24/7 OB Hospitalist
• Break nurse
• Resource nurse
• OB Scrub Techs

?? Floating Requirements

Travelers may float to other Women & Children's units:

• NICU
• Pediatrics
• FNB/Postpartum

Floating is considered appropriate and will generally involve lower-acuity patients

?? Experience Requirements

Required:

• 2 years L&D experience
• High-risk L&D experience
• Comfortable with antepartum
• Epidurals
• Insulin drips
• IV Magnesium
• Preterm labor
• OR circulating
• Baby nurse responsibilities

?? Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS – AHA
• NRP
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or equivalent

BSN: Not required

?? Oregon License

• Oregon license not required to submit
• Non-Oregon RNs can apply for a 90-day temporary Oregon license
• Client is willing to wait for licensure

?? Orientation

Total orientation is approximately:

• 2 days nursing orientation
• 2 days EPIC training
• Up to 1 week FBC/L&D unit orientation depending on experience
• 1 day each at:
  • FNB/Postpartum
  • Pediatrics
  • NICU

There are 12 hours of non-billable orientation during the first work week, and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.

• Client can call off/cancel up to 24 hours during the 13-week assignment
• Client may also provide 2 weeks' notice
