Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience in software development and 3 years building developer tools (e.g., compilers, automated releases, code design and testing, test automation frameworks). 3 years in a technical leadership role and 2 years in a people management or team leadership role. Experience in data warehouse design and data analysis. Experience in Android OS. Experience in SQL. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. 3 years working in a complex, matrixed organization. About the job The platforms and devices team encompasses Google’s computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as first‑party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams research, design, and develop new technologies to make our users’ interactions with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences worldwide. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership to major projects, manage a team of engineers, oversee deployment of large‑scale projects across multiple international sites, and contribute to product strategy. You will manage projects, guide engineers across multiple teams and locations, and ensure high‑quality code and systems design. The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $207,000–$300,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. This is a U.S. role; compensation details are provided during the hiring process. Responsibilities Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization’s goals; align strategy, processes, and decision‑making across teams. Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role, and align them to the organization’s goals. Meet regularly to discuss performance, provide feedback, and coach development. Develop the mid‑term technical direction and roadmap within the scope of your team(s). Evolve the roadmap to meet future requirements and infrastructure needs. Design, guide, and vet system designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems. Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, check‑in procedures, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
