Senior IT SQL Database Administrator

DescriptionSAIC is seeking a Senior IT SQL Database Administrator with a robust background in SQL Server and cloud technologies, primarily AWS EC2, RDS, and Always-On clusters, to join our dynamic team. This individual will play a critical role in transitioning SQL workloads from on-premise systems to cloud platforms with a significant emphasis on AWS and supplementary migrations to Azure. The ideal candidate will thrive in a remote working environment, demonstrating exceptional self-management and communication skills to collaborate effectively with the team.This is a full-time remote position requiring a quiet, dedicated home office space with reliable high-speed internet access. Standard working hours with additional hours as required to meet project deadlines and support deployments. Regular virtual meetings with IT team members and other departments.Key Responsibilities:Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases within AWS EC2 and RDS environments, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.Manage Always-On clusters to provide continuous data availability and disaster recovery capabilities.Lead and execute migration projects for SQL workloads from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud, prioritizing AWS with the ability to also leverage Azure.Administer Windows Server 2016 (and higher) operating systems, applying best practices and updates.Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, index rebuilds/defragmentation, and query optimization.Implement and enforce security standards across the SQL Server and cloud database instances.Conduct thorough troubleshooting of complex database issues, utilizing mid-level troubleshooting skills and basic networking knowledge.Monitor database system health and performance, proactively addressing potential issues to minimize downtime.Collaborate closely with other team members, contributing to the team's knowledge and best practices.Stay current with the latest technologies and advancements in SQL databases, AWS, and Azure services, continuously improving personal and team capabilities.QualificationsRequired Education and Skills:Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; an additional four (4) years experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance after hire.At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration.Proven track record of managing AWS cloud services, particularly EC2, RDS, and configuring Always-On Availability Groups.Proficient in the administration and operation of Windows Server 2016 or higher.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database and system issues independently.Relevant AWS and Azure Cloud Certifications (such as AWS Cloud Practitioner and Azure Cloud Fundamentals).Solid understanding of networking concepts and troubleshooting practices.Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision, possessing strong organizational and time management skills.Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to effectively collaborate within a distributed team environment.Eagerness to work flexibly, both in a team and independently, adapting to varying project needs.Demonstrable experience with effectively managing remote work responsibilities and deadlines.Access to a dedicated, interruption-free workspace and a reliable internet connection.Proficient with remote communication and collaboration tools.Self-motivated with a disciplined approach to work.Job Field: Information TechnologyTravel: No
