Description of Work This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive residential home energy assessments in accordance with agency, utility, state, and federal standards, and educating clients on how to make their homes safer and more energy-efficient. The position will be an instrumental member of Central Pines' weatherization program team, tasked with translating field diagnostics into accurate scopes of work and ensuring absolute compliance with program regulations. Activities include: Field Diagnostics & Assessment: Conduct thorough home energy audits in residential structures, routinely entering attics, basements, crawl spaces, and living spaces. Utilize specialized diagnostic equipment to perform combustion safety testing and infrared scanning to evaluate existing building conditions. Data Collection, Modeling, and Analysis: Complete detailed and accurate measurements and data collection, entering findings into designated program databases to calculate efficiency metrics. Install immediate, funder-defined instant savings measures during the audit process, such as LEDs, smart strips, and other energy-saving devices. Client & Contractor Engagement: Interact directly with homeowners, tenants, and multi-trade contractors regarding energy efficiency options, carbon reduction, and home health/safety. Prepare detailed, accurate work orders for each audit and promote the adoption of recommended energy-saving measures. Quality Control & Compliance: Conduct Post-Quality Control Inspector (QCI) Audits in strict compliance with industry Best Practices and Weatherization Program Rules and Regulations. Maintain organized, complete files for all assigned tasks to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and agency guidelines. Technical Standards Knowledge: Read, master, and maintain familiarity with the technical support manuals, state building codes, and program guidelines governing the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). Data Collection and Analysis: Provide spatial analysis with the ability to interpret and manipulate geographic data to identify patterns, relationships, and trends in land use, zoning, housing, transportation, and environmental factors. This position requires consistent travel throughout the 15-county region to perform on-site energy audits and inspect residential properties. Education & Experience A bachelor’s degree in building science, environmental planning, construction management, public administration, or a related field is highly desired. Candidates with an associate degree or high school diploma paired with 3+ years of direct residential construction, HVAC, or weatherization experience will be fully considered. Although applicants holding all required certifications will be given preference, CPRC is highly invested in supporting the right candidate in obtaining missing certifications during employment. Work Environment During the initial 6 months of employment, the employee will be expected to work primarily at Central Pine’s office and in the field. Following this initial period, the employee may be eligible for CPRC’s hybrid work policies (anticipating at least 2–3 days per week in the Durham office, with remaining days split between remote work and field auditing sites). Frequent regional travel to partner sites and residential properties is required. Starting Salary & Benefits Hiring range: $51,710 - $54,295 This position is eligible for a 5% increase after serving a 6-month probation period.
