Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Stepdown

Position Overview

This role involves providing direct patient care in a cardiac medical intermediate setting. The nurse will deliver care to post-operative patients and those experiencing various cardiac conditions, functioning within established guidelines and nursing practice standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize care and patient comfort.
• Maintain professional accountability for the effectiveness of care provided to patients.
• Ensure patient rights and confidentiality of information are upheld.
• Assist in the education of patients and their families regarding health conditions and treatment plans.
• Document patient care activities accurately in the electronic medical record system.
• Participate in unit meetings and contribute to a positive team environment.

Qualifications

• Current RN License in the state of Missouri or eligibility for licensure.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a cardiac stepdown or similar inpatient setting.
• Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA are required.
• NIHSS certification is preferred.

Unit Information

• Unit consists of 32 beds with patient ratios of 1:3 to 1:4.
• Common equipment used includes chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, and Bipaps.
• The electronic medical record system utilized is EPIC.

Working Conditions

The role requires considerable physical activity, including standing and walking for extended periods, as well as bending, stooping, and lifting patients. Candidates must be prepared to work variable schedules and potentially fulfill weekend shifts as required by the unit. There is a high exposure risk to blood and body fluids, and physical demands may include pushing, pulling, and gripping up to 50 pounds.
