Lecturer – Civil Litigation and Procedure – School of Law Position Overview: Lecturer (part‑time, 5–100% of a full‑time position) with anticipated start Fall 2026 or later. The role is for one semester or a full academic year, with possibility of renewal. Position Description: This role involves teaching U.S. Civil Procedure, Federal Courts, Appellate 9th Circuit Practicum, Evidence, Conflict of Law, Remedies, Multi‑District Litigation, Impact Litigation, and other major litigation practice area courses. Responsibilities include preparing syllabi, maintaining course websites, holding office hours, assessing student work, providing feedback, assigning grades, and advising students. Lecturers are academic appointees in the University of California bargaining unit and are represented by the American Federation of Teachers – Unit 18. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent international degree. Additional qualifications (required at time of start) J.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., LL.M. or Master’s degree, or equivalent international degree, and at least three years of professional experience in legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching in the United States. Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of professional experience in legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching in the United States. Availability to teach in‑person during required law school class times. Preferred qualifications Experience teaching courses in a United States law school. Five or more years of legal practice experience in the United States or another jurisdiction, in the area of Civil Litigation and procedure. Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills (English). Ability to support the success of all students through an inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy. Effective organizational skills with attention to detail.
