The Opportunity
\nCrye is growing and color sits at the heart of what we make. Our products and our proprietary family of camouflage, MultiCam, has to match and perform across the visible, near-infrared spectrum and beyond. We're looking for a Color Technologist to run our color lab end to end: shade evaluation, spectral measurement, standards, instruments, and the data behind every approval.
\n \nThis is a hands-on role for someone who is precise and fast, and knows the two aren't in conflict. You'll turn samples around quickly, make pass/fail calls you can defend with data, and keep production moving. You'll work side by side with Quality, Production, Product Development and our mills around the world. You'll have access to the most advanced equipment and put modern tools, including AI, to work every day.
\n \nJob Responsibilities
\nThe Color Technologist is responsible for:
\n- Visual and instrumented shade evaluation of textiles, trims, plastics and other components used in production, on committed turnaround times
\n- First article, lot and courtesy evaluations of printed and solid-shade fabrics from mills worldwide, with clear, timely pass/fail decisions and feedback
\n- Near-infrared and SWIR reflectance measurement and analysis (Datacolor, Agilent) against military and customer specifications
\n- Creating, maintaining and distributing physical shade standards; keeping the shade database and inspection records current
\n- Owning lab instruments: calibration, maintenance, and driving vendor service, quotes and parts to resolution quickly
\n- Managing outside labs (sample submission, quotes, follow-up and results) so that work never stalls
\n- Writing and maintaining inspection protocols, SOPs and calibration records in support of our ISO 9001 quality system
\n- Training mill and supplier technical staff on our evaluation methods; supporting visits, audits and lab demonstrations
\n- Acting as an active, prepared contributor in project reviews with Quality, Production, Product Development and Marketing
\n \nRequired Experience & Qualifications
\n- 3+ years in color evaluation, color QC or a spectral/optical laboratory; textiles, dyeing/printing or coatings strongly preferred
\n- Exceptional color discrimination (applicants will be tested: FM-100 Hue and a practical shade evaluation)
\n- Hands-on with spectrophotometers, light booths and color software; CIELAB/ΔE, metamerism; NIR/SWIR a strong plus
\n- Sound, independent judgment: makes defensible calls quickly and knows when to escalate versus decide
\n- Highly organized, reliable and punctual; manages a queue of competing priorities and delivers on the dates committed
\n- Responsive, clear written and verbal communicator with strong technical writing (reports, SOPs)
\n- Advanced Excel; enthusiastic daily user of AI and automation tools to speed up analysis and reporting
\n- Familiarity with military specifications, ISO 9001 and AATCC/ASTM color test methods preferred
\n- Must be a U.S. citizen
\n \nThe salary range for this position is between $70,000 - $90,000/yr.
