Quality Control Supervisor

Huntsman is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor to lead day-to-day Quality Control laboratory operations at our Los Angeles chemical manufacturing site.

This hands-on leadership role supervises QC Technicians, manages testing priorities and technician capability, and ensures accurate and timely testing to support manufacturing, packaging, and product release decisions.

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

QC Operations & Technical Leadership

• Lead daily QC laboratory operations, assigning and prioritizing testing and technician resources based on qualifications, workload, production needs, and product release priorities.
• Monitor testing progress, address day-to-day laboratory issues, and communicate risks that may affect production, material disposition, or batch release.
• Review QC Cards, test results, and laboratory records and authorize batch or material release within assigned authority.
• Exercise independent quality judgment and place testing, material, or batches on hold when further evaluation is required.
• Perform hands-on laboratory testing and troubleshoot test methods, instruments, and questionable results when workload, staffing, or technical needs require support.
• Partner with Production, Quality, Planning, Engineering, EHS, Maintenance, and other functions to support operational needs while maintaining quality requirements.

People Leadership & Technician Development

• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, direction, and feedback to QC Technicians across applicable shifts.
• Manage technician scheduling, attendance, time off, workload, and shift coverage.
• Conduct performance reviews, establish performance and development expectations, and address performance or behavioral concerns in partnership with management and HR as appropriate.
• Make recommendations as to the hiring, firing, promotion, demotion, or other change in status of QC Technicians.
• Own technician training, qualification, and cross-training, including maintaining qualification records and identifying competency or coverage gaps.
• Train and qualify technicians on applicable test methods and equipment, verify competency, and recommend tier progression in accordance with established requirements.

Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure laboratory testing, records, and documentation meet approved methods, specifications, procedures, data integrity expectations, and applicable quality requirements.
• Initiate NCRs or deviations within assigned authority and support investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions in coordination with Quality leadership.
• Monitor laboratory performance and recurring issues to identify and support improvements in quality, testing consistency, efficiency, and technician capability.
• Support compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and other applicable quality system requirements.

Safety & Compliance

• Lead and reinforce compliance with laboratory and site EHS requirements, including chemical handling, PPE, waste management, and safe laboratory practices.
• Participate in safety activities, incident reviews, corrective actions, and identification and mitigation of laboratory hazards.
• Reinforce stop-work responsibility and appropriate escalation of unsafe conditions or quality concerns.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Science, or a related scientific or technical field.
• At least five years of quality control, laboratory, chemical manufacturing, or comparable technical manufacturing experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory testing, test methods, specifications, and quality documentation.
• Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP/quality system.
• Basic computer and mathematical skills and the ability to accurately review and complete laboratory, quality, and manufacturing documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound quality judgment, and appropriately escalate quality or safety concerns.
• Ability to safely work with reactive, hazardous, and industrial chemicals.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous leadership, supervisory, coaching, or training experience in a laboratory or quality environment.
• Experience in chemical, adhesive, resin, hardener, composite, or related manufacturing.
• Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, SPC/SQC, or comparable quality systems and tools.
• Experience with OOS, deviations, NCRs, CAPA, root cause analysis, laboratory trending, or troubleshooting.

Success in This Role

• Maintain safe, compliant, and reliable QC laboratory operations across applicable shifts.
• Build and maintain a qualified, cross-trained QC team that effectively supports manufacturing requirements.
• Deliver accurate and timely testing and release decisions while maintaining independent quality judgment.
• Provide effective people leadership while remaining technically capable of supporting testing and troubleshooting when needed.
• Identify and address quality, staffing, training, and operational risks while driving continuous improvement.

Work Schedule

This position supports continuous manufacturing operations. QC currently operates across multiple shifts on a 24/7 schedule and may operate on a 24/5 or 24/7 schedule based on business needs.

The QC Supervisor will have a primary assigned shift while providing leadership support across QC operations. The position is expected to be reasonably available for urgent off-shift issues, including onsite or remote support when needed, and may provide leadership coverage when the QC Manager is unavailable.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work in laboratory and chemical manufacturing environments around reactive, hazardous, and industrial chemicals and wear required PPE.
• Frequently stand, walk, reach, and perform laboratory activities for extended periods.
• Safely handle samples, laboratory materials, containers, equipment, and analytical instruments.
• Perform detailed work requiring accuracy and the ability to distinguish colors or visual characteristics when required.
• Work in areas where temperature, noise, odors, or other manufacturing conditions may vary.

What Can We Offer You?

Salary: $95,000-$120,000 per year

The compensation range reflects the Company's reasonable expectation at the time of posting, considering education, experience, and training.
