PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I (PERMANENT FULL-TIME) - BAY AREA DISTRICT - MOUNT TAMALPAIS STATE PARK


This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.


The work schedule is Sunday through Wednesday, 7:00am-5:30pm.

The reporting location for this position is at the Mount Tamalpais State Park in Mill Valley, CA. This position will work under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.

The Park Maintenance Worker I will perform skilled and semiskilled structural and facility maintenance and repair work throughout the District on a wide variety of park facilities, including buildings, systems, grounds, roads and trails; estimates and purchases materials and supplies; keeps tools and equipment in good condition; keeps records and prepares reports as required. The incumbent may lead and train a crew of maintenance employees. The incumbent will primarily be responsible for the facility maintenance and housekeeping functions at Mount Tamalpais State Park, but maybe required to work in other areas in the Bay Area District including but not limited to Samuel P. Taylor, China Camp, Olompali, and Tomales Bay State Parks. This position has shared responsibility with the other Park Maintenance Workers, Skilled Laborers, Park Maintenance Assistants, and Laborers, within the Bay Area District's Facilities Management Division. The incumbent may be required to work with one or all at any given time.


This position is currently eligible for a Recruitment and Retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area. This pay differential is five percent (5%) of the base pay for each qualifying pay period and is in addition to the posted monthly salary range.


Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.

Working Conditions


Typical work activities involve frequent periods of bending, stooping and lifting. Performs indoor and outdoor work, often in inclement weather. May have extensive exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May work in remote locations. May require heavy physical work including lifting, pushing or pulling.
