Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor

Acadia National Park

Summary You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor with National Park Service overseeing the maintenance, cleaning, repair, and preservation of built structures such as buildings, docks, and boardwalks. Facilities are located in Midwest Region, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, in Van Buren, Missouri. Salary Range Information: Rest of United States Southern Missouri Wage Area WS-4749-09: $33.86 - $39.50 per hour. Responsibilities Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Directs journeyman and non-journeyman level personnel in the daily, non-recurring and preventative maintenance of buildings and utilities, grounds, and historic structures. Plans and organizes work schedules and sequences of operations on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis for the Lower Current District. Directly supervises one WG-09 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and five permanent subject to furlough employees- two WG-09 Maintenance Mechanics, two WG-05 Maintenance Worker and one WG-07 Maintenance Worker. Also provides direct supervision to a staff of approximately up to 10 temporary employees. Serves as the technical expert for construction, rehabilitation and repair of structures, buildings, and utilities throughout the lower current district for both historic and non-historic structures. Utilizes knowledge of trades and crafts for a variety of shop operations and associated materials to perform cost estimates, prepare plans, designs, and specifications for the accomplishments of a variety of jobs ranging from small to large complex projects. Responsible for forecasting both manpower and material requirements for a full budget year for the maintenance program. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. Physical effort and coordination required in operating brake, clutch, steering, shift, and accelerator controls on equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 of pounds. This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a one year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Lead Or Supervise as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749 with responsibility for developing, implementing, managing, and overseeing both long-term and daily operations for a park or similar maintenance facility. This includes supervising the repair and upkeep of facilities such as historic and non-historic buildings, housing units, utilities, roads, grounds, trails, fences, day-use areas, comfort stations, sign operations, and vehicle fleet maintenance. (Screen-Out) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Physical Demands: Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to fifty pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors. When working inside, worker is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature, and noise. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to bad weather. Often works in rain, mud and snow and cold temperatures. Icy, slippery conditions are normal for six months of the year.
