• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Unit: 16-bed cardiac stepdown unit with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3–4
• Orientation: 12 hours; biweekly orientation schedule
• Schedule Requirements: Three weekends in every six-week schedule and every other holiday
• Call Requirement: None
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required, including completion of a charting checkoff class
• Floating: May float within the nurse’s skill set to nearby affiliated campuses with advance notice

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in a compact state
• At least 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year of cardiac stepdown nursing experience
• At least 1 completed travel nursing assignment
• Trauma Level II experience
• Associate degree or nursing certificate
• Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Recent EPIC documentation experience
• Strong telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation skills; travelers must successfully complete required telemetry testing
• Excellent patient assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and adaptability skills
• Ability to work collaboratively, manage change effectively, and provide safe patient care in a fast-paced cardiac stepdown environment
• Travelers must reside outside the applicable 40-mile local radius

Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to cardiac and medically complex stepdown patients
• Care for patients recovering from cardiac catheterization, stent placement, and other cardiac interventions, as well as patients with pacemakers
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKG findings
• Initiate and titrate cardiac, anticoagulant, insulin, and other critical medication infusions according to clinical protocols
• Perform thorough postoperative assessments and nursing care
• Complete NIHSS evaluations, neurological assessments, and dysphagia screenings
• Care for patients with sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, alcohol withdrawal, behavioral health needs, and respiratory support requirements
• Manage patients with CPAP, feeding tubes, hypothermia therapy, and other complex interventions
• Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, nursing assistants, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate individualized patient care
• Float to other nearby units or campuses within the nurse’s competency when needed
• Support a positive learning environment, including precepting students or newly hired staff when assigned
