Position Overview Our Client is seeking an experienced Controller to serve as a key leader within the accounting organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will oversee accounting and financial reporting activities across multiple companies, subsidiaries, and related entities. This position requires someone who can step into a rapidly moving organization, quickly understand the business, and contribute immediately. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, public-company experience, excellent leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to process improvement. A significant focus of the role will be strengthening accounting processes, controls, systems, and documentation to create a scalable accounting function capable of supporting continued organizational growth. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Consolidations Lead the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external reporting. Prepare, review, and consolidate financial statements across multiple companies and operating entities. Review weekly and monthly individual company financial statements and consolidated financial statements. Own and drive monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and technical accounting matters. Prepare and review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other general accounting activities. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions. Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial and operational reporting. Public Company & SEC Reporting Supporting quarterly and annual SEC reporting requirements. Coordinating with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits. Preparing schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors. Responding to inquiries from auditors, SEC attorneys, executive leadership, and other stakeholders. Supporting SEC, DTCC, and shareholder reporting requirements. Assisting with stock ledgers, transfer-agent reporting, stock-basis reporting, and related investor accounting responsibilities. Accounting Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team. Establish expectations, deadlines, and accountability. Review work prepared by accounting team members. Provide technical accounting guidance. Delegate effectively while remaining hands‑on when necessary. Build an accounting organization capable of supporting continued growth. Work closely with the CFO and other members of executive leadership. Develop productive relationships throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting capabilities with a relational leadership style and the ability to establish credibility across all levels of the organization. Systems, Technology & Process Improvement Our Client is looking for a Controller who is technologically savvy, comfortable learning new systems, and able to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement. Experience an ERP system is required. Additional systems exposure may include RAMP, MarginEdge, Paycom, Toast, Yapsody, Prism, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office. The Controller Will Be Expected To Assess existing accounting workflows. Identify inefficiencies and internal-control gaps. Create scalable solutions. Strengthen internal controls. Develop repeatable accounting procedures. Create and maintain accounting policies and standard operating procedures. Build documentation that supports future organizational growth. Develop processes that can be easily transferred to and taught to new accounting employees. Support ERP enhancements, implementations, and system integrations. Take ownership of identifying and implementing solutions. Additional Accounting Responsibilities Payroll accounting and reconciliations. Payroll taxes. 401(k) administration support. Sales tax. PIF reporting. 1099s and K-1s. Tax reporting coordination with external partners. Intercompany accounting. Multiple subsidiaries and related entities. Fixed assets. Inventory. Real estate accounting. Landlord and tenant accounting. Construction-in-progress accounting. Large, multi-million-dollar real estate projects. Special projects requested by executive leadership. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Public-company accounting experience required. Significant full-cycle accounting experience. Strong month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close experience. Experience accounting for multiple companies, subsidiaries, or related entities. Experience preparing and consolidating multiple financial statements. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Experience developing and maintaining internal accounting controls. Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Strong ERP and accounting systems experience. Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision. Ability to operate successfully under tight deadlines and shifting priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively across departments and directly with senior executives. Proactive, solutions-oriented approach. Approximately 10+ years of full accounting-cycle experience. Highly Preferred Qualifications Active CPA. Public accounting foundation. SEC reporting experience. External audit coordination experience. ERP implementation, conversion, or optimization experience. Experience working within complex, multi-entity organizations. Experience within a larger corporate environment. Experience documenting and improving accounting processes. Real estate and/or construction-in-progress accounting experience.
