Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience in a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their caretakers. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics and dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Duration Externships at North River Animal Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend.
