Network Engineer | Must be local to NY | Must work on W2

Role: Network Engineer Location: Albany, NY Responsibilities Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS) Must be on‑site full‑time and available on‑call after hours. Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations. Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability. Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning. Provide Level‑2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues. Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team. Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution. Work with security team to evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with appropriate security configuration standards of the organizations. Design and deploy changes to the configurations of clients as per the applicable change management process. Proactively handle all network security solutions. Firmware upgrades on routers, switches, WLCs and firewalls. Make use of testing and diagnostic tools to assess and modify equipment. Make use of enterprise monitoring tools (SolarWinds and Splunk). Open vendor support cases, including Cisco, Palo Alto and other third‑party vendors. Investigate network performance issues, performing captures using Wireshark and uploading data accordingly. Perform hardware decommission and disposal following company policy and guidelines. Update vision diagram for multiple sites based on CMDB report. Support offshore team upgrades and troubleshooting sessions as required. Requirements And Skills Proven hands‑on network engineer experience. CCNP or higher (Wireless and SDWAN knowledge added advantage). Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11). Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model. Hands‑on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools. University degree in Computer Science or a related subject. Comprehensive understanding of network services and networks such as TCP/IP, BGP and EIGRP. In‑depth understanding and practical knowledge of networking systems such as LAN, firewalls, routers and WLCs. Ability to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently. Ability to design, implement and troubleshoot Wi‑Fi and security infrastructure. Time management. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.
