Forensic Nurse Examiner

Responsibilities Provide comprehensive forensic medical exams for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and other trauma‑related incidents Collect, document, and preserve forensic evidence in accordance with legal and clinical standards Perform detailed patient assessments, including injury identification, photography, and documentation Collaborate with law enforcement, social services, advocacy organizations, and legal teams Provide trauma‑informed, patient‑centered care, crisis intervention, and safety planning Maintain accurate, timely medical and forensic records and chain‑of‑custody documentation Offer expert testimony in court as needed regarding forensic findings and procedures Participate in on‑call rotations and respond rapidly to requests for forensic examinations Educate patients and families on follow‑up medical, psychological, and community resources Engage in continuing education, quality improvement, and adherence to Intermountain Health protocols Forensic evidence collection and preservation Medical‑forensic examination techniques Trauma‑informed patient care Injury assessment and forensic photography Detailed clinical and legal documentation Knowledge of sexual assault and domestic violence protocols Chain‑of‑custody and legal standards Interdisciplinary collaboration with law enforcement and advocacy groups Electronic medical record (EMR) proficiency Courtroom testimony and professional communication Qualifications Active, unencumbered RN license in state of practice Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE‑A and/or SANE‑P) certification preferred or obtained within specified timeframe Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred Trauma‑informed care training strongly preferred Experience with evidence collection and chain‑of‑custody procedures preferred Eligibility to provide expert witness testimony Completion of approved forensic nurse examiner/SANE training course Familiarity with EMR systems and forensic documentation standards Background check and applicable hospital credentialing Benefits Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Intermountain Health seeks a compassionate Forensic Nurse Examiner to provide trauma‑informed care and forensic evaluation for patients affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and other interpersonal violence.
