Maintenance Worker

Maintenance AssistantThis position is responsible for assisting other maintenance positions in the maintenance of the County's buildings, structures, fixtures, and equipment through projects involving carpentry work, painting, plumbing, and other construction, maintenance, and repair.Examples Of DutiesProvides assistance in completing light carpentry work, repairing plumbing fixtures, and systems, and replacing light bulbs and filters.Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of mechanical and electrical systems within County buildings.Performs general building maintenance work to include painting, replacing lighting fixtures, windows and doors, and flushing drains and gutters.Assists other maintenance workers and takes direction from the lead maintenance worker.Assists in the setup of special events which may require occasional overtime and/or weekend work hours.Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.Performs other assigned duties.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.Required QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalent;Six (6) months of related work experience;Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:Valid VA driver's license.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of proper cleaning and maintenance methods and procedures;Knowledge of county ordinances, policies, and procedures;Skill in interpersonal relations;Skill in verbal and written communication;Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools;Ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles; andAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with other employees and the general public.Supplemental InformationPlease Note: All County employees may be required to report to serve our customers during emergency conditions. While some will perform their regular duties, others may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties from their regular jobs. Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to report to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty.Benefits eligible.
