Groton, United States | Posted on 02/13/2026 The Pipe Welder will perform high-quality welding on a variety of pipe materials, including stainless steel, chromes, Inconel, carbon, and copper nickel, using GTAW and SMAW processes. Responsibilities include welding in multiple positions, adhering to industry standards, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements in a dynamic construction environment. Responsibilities Perform 100% x-ray quality welds on chromes, stainless, Inconel, carbon, nickel copper, and copper nickel using GTAW (TIG) process. Weld in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions; perform tack welding, heat bending, grinding, and clamping. Plan, layout, and install pipe and tubular components according to plans, specifications, and welding codes. Use hand and power tools (e.g., cutting torches, files) to measure, cut, assemble, and weld structural steel components. Install supports, valves, and control equipment; test systems and ensure compliance with specifications. Assist with joint fit-up, alignment, and rigging/lifting as needed. Set up and operate welding equipment, including adjusting gas flow and pressure for proper flame control. Work in confined spaces with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and radiation. Follow lockout/tag out procedures and adhere to all site safety and operational protocols. Read and interpret plans, drawings (orthographic, isometric), and specifications; visualize 2D drawings in 3D. Complete quality audits and ensure all welds meet required standards. Attend site-specific training and follow all established procedures. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor. Requirements Required Qualifications At least five years of pipe welding experience in an industrial or shipyard environment. Must pass a welding test on specific procedures and welding codes (e.g., MIL-82H, MIL-MS-2, MIL-RN82H). Strong working knowledge of pipe welding codes, specifications, and industry standards. Proficiency in GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (STICK) welding, including 6G position welding. Knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, copper nickel, nickel copper, and Inconel alloys. Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions and work procedures. Preferred Qualifications Experience with EB ring consumable inserts. Experience in submarine piping is a plus. Successfulcandidate must possess the willingness and ability to complete and pass allpre-employment and employment screening requirements which may include but arenot limited to: Practical skills, COVID-19, other medical, psychological(if required by site), background and substance abuse screening(s). WeldTest Requirements: GTAW welding of 1' Inconel butt weld with MIL-82H consumable insertring and MIL-RN82H filler wire. GTAW welding of 1' carbon steel butt weld with MIL-MS-2 consumableinsert ring and ER70S-3 filler wire. GTAW welding of 2 - ?' CRES socket welds (4F/5F positions) withMIL-RN82H Inconel filler wire. GTAW welding of 2 - ?' carbon steel socket welds (4F/5F positions)with ER70S-3 filler wire. All tests are restricted in accordance with NAVSEA TechnicalPublication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 Figure 21. PhysicalRequirements: Liftand carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered places,and uneven areas, see and hear naturally or with correction. Fullrange of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controlsaccording to a set procedure. Requires repetitive movement. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Workup to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremesand other outside conditions. Requires working in cramped workspaces and getting into awkward positions. Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32Fdegrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind,snow, rain, etc. Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting oruncomfortable. Workaround hazardous equipment. Compensation Range: $50.50 – $53.50 per hour, based on experience, certifications, and successful completion of required weld testing. Overtime and site differentials may apply.
