Wetland Scientist

The team is composed of highly credentialed professionals, including Virginia Certified Professional Wetland Delineators, Professional Wetland Scientists, ISA Certified Arborists, and Certified Ecologists. Role Description The Wetland Scientist will perform field-based wetland and Waters of the U.S. delineations, stream assessments, and related natural resource surveys in support of public and private sector projects. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing field data, preparing technical reports and maps, and assisting with regulatory permitting and mitigation planning. The role involves coordinating with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and standards. Additional tasks may include supporting ecological assessments, contributing to proposal development, and maintaining accurate project documentation. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chantilly, VA. Qualifications Applied wetland science skills, including wetland and Waters of the U.S. delineation, stream assessment, and familiarity with relevant federal and state regulations. Field research and data collection skills, such as vegetation, soil, and hydrology sampling, GPS use, and basic mapping or GIS capabilities. Technical writing and documentation skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, figures, and supporting materials for regulatory submittals. Project coordination skills, including time management, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and clients. Relevant academic background, such as a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, natural resources, or a related field. Beneficial qualifications may include professional certifications (e.g., PWS, PWD, ISA-CA), prior consulting experience, and knowledge of mitigation planning and permitting processes.
