Job Summary and Qualifications

Prepares and dispenses medications (under the supervision of a pharmacist), including sterile, and parenteral nutrition preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.

Distributes controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.

Participates in the quality improvement and medication-use review activities of the department. Collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; and maintains logs, records, and other documentation as assigned.

Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.

Completes monthly inspection of nursing units and pharmacy areas.

Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. Answers requests at the window.

Receiving, Dispensing, Reconciling Narcotics* 8. preparing chemotherapy agents*

Profiling TPN orders in the TPN computer for RPh verification*

Obtain patient data from PCI for assigned clinical pharmacy monitoring sheets*

Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well-organized.

Maintains current licensure/registration.

Attends orientation, education, and training programs.

Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.

Attends meetings and participates in committees as required

Adheres to health system and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information. Complies with HIPAA Privacy Rule standards.

Performs work within specified time frames. Adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule.

Provides courteous, cooperative service to patients, visitors, and staff. Demonstrates good oral and written communication.

Works cooperatively with all staff. Voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner.

Establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations

Demonstrates proficiency in required operating systems: (ie Meditech, MedCom, Automated Dispensing Machines, Clinical Pharmacology, Microsoft Office, etc.)

Works independently with minimal supervision. Organizes and prioritizes work assignments. Ensures pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.

Understands and meets customers' needs and expectations. The patient and family members always come first.

Articulates knowledge and understanding of department and facility policies, procedures and systems

Answer telephones, responds to emails, research information, utilize drug resources

Is punctual and dependable; reports to work as scheduled. Fulfills on-call obligations per prearranged schedule. Absenteeism and tardiness are within policy guidelines.

Maintains a neat, professional, well-groomed appearance. Wears identification badge at all times.

Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.

Performance demonstrates efforts to improve patient satisfaction, lower costs, improve quality, and promote safety.

Demonstrates the ability to address problems in a group setting using tools and techniques for identification and resolution of problems.

Demonstrates the values and behaviors of the organization.

Participates in maintaining department inventory levels

Orders medication based on PAR levels

Orders medication based on clinical need in conjunction with formulary initiatives

Works with DOP or designee as needed in inventory management initiatives

Participates in maintaining department formulary initiatives

Communicates with appropriate medical, nursing and allied health professional staff members with regard to non-formulary decisions

Works with DOP or designee as needed in formulary clinical review process

Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Pharmacy/Clinical Manager in accordance with established facility hospital policies and accrediting agencies.

What qualifications you will need:

EXPERIENCE Required: Prior pharmacy technician experience Preferred: Training in hospital pharmacy and IV admixture 2 3

EDUCATION Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; successful completion and renewal of the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam; registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy Preferred: advanced training in sciences and/or math and/or Pharmacy Technician training course

Hours: Evening shift, 8 hour shifts including weekend rotation (shifts start as early as noon and as end as late as 11:30pm)
