TEMP- Workers’ Compensation Claims Intake/First Notice of Loss Specialist

Job Description Business Title(s) TEMP- Workers’ Compensation Claims Intake/First Notice of Loss Specialist Employment Type Temporary FLSA Status Non‑Exempt Location In‑Office Summary We are looking for a highly capable Triage Specialist for a temporary assignment with a projected end date of October 2, 2026. The role can be filled in‑office or remotely from any state. If the position is filled in one of the specified offices (Albany, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, or Richmond, VA), it may be considered a temp‑to‑hire assignment. The candidate will set up and assign new claims as customers report them, and may transition into Claims Trainee roles. As a temporary assignment, only government‑mandated benefits are provided. Contractors must accurately record all hours worked and submit timesheets per company policy. Overtime may be assigned as needed. Essential Responsibilities Under technical direction and within standard limits and authority provide clerical support to claims adjusters to facilitate timely and accurate intake and assignment of commercial claims, mostly in the workers’ compensation line of business. Update new and existing claims in the claims database and contact brokers as needed. Screen all incoming phone calls, assess and assign to the proper party. Prepare written correspondence. Print attached backup documentation/invoice and mail checks. Electronic and paper filing as needed. Determine coverage and adjuster assignment. Investigate claims by calling the claimant and insured. Process mail and prioritize workload. Collect technical information through ordering reports and contacting police departments for vehicle/equipment recovery. Manage telephone calls from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.). Demonstrate a passion for strong claim management. Qualifications / Experience Required Knowledge of Service Center policies and guidelines, and an exceptional customer service focus, obtained through: One year insurance experience (required). General knowledge of commercial workers’ compensation insurance required. A high school diploma (or equivalent) and 3 years of prior relevant work experience; or A vocational or technical education with at least one year of relevant work experience. Clear communication on the telephone; fluent reading and writing in English. Effective time‑management skills and the ability to prioritize workload while handling multiple tasks and deadlines. Strong sense of accountability and pride in delivering an excellent work product. Eagerness to learn the triage claims function with intent to become a claims adjuster. Active listening and proactive communication—listening first and preparing carefully before engaging. Shows care, curiosity, self‑awareness, and collaborates easily. Team‑player who communicates and collaborates with peers to achieve common goals. Intellectual curiosity—consistently considers all options without conventional constraints. Client focus—identifies specific client needs and provides value‑added solutions. Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and ability to communicate with a diverse range of individuals. Strong execution focus: consistently produce and deliver expected results to stakeholders, including: finding success through adversity, being solution‑focused. Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, partners and peers with timely and meaningful exchanges. Detail‑oriented with initiative. Flexible, thrives in change, and resourceful in a fast‑paced evolving environment. Excellent analytical skills. Proficient with computer programs including Word, Excel and Outlook. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or industry designations are preferred but not required. Fluency in Spanish (reading and writing) is preferred but not required. The base salary range is provided below for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance, as well as a generous benefits package. Pay Ranges by Region Colorado (outside Denver), Delaware, Illinois (except Chicago metro), Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts (except Boston metro), Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia: $24.32–$28.00 per hour Boston metro area, California (outside Los Angeles & San Francisco metro), Connecticut, Chicago metro area, Denver metro area, New Jersey (outside New York City metro), New York State (outside New York City metro), Washington D.C. metro area, and Washington State: $26.63–$30.80 per hour New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco metro areas: $29.13–$33.74 per hour About Working In Claims At Argo Group Argo Group does not treat claims professionals as a commodity.
